Meet Aya and Sunny

During the pandemic, amidst the looming concern of food shortages in Hawaii, our founder Aya felt called to ensure the well-being of her family and community and embarked on a transformative journey to learn the sacred art of hunting.

Guided by two generous local hunters, she not only received the gift of wild-harvested venison but also the wisdom of honoring and utilizing the whole animal.

Aya's journey began with a mission to nourish the students in her prenatal yoga classes, crafting weekly batches of bone broth rich in vital nutrients. These early efforts blossomed into a small-scale operation, where the soothing, healing elixirs were shared within her farmers market community.

Determined to expand her impact, Aya enrolled in an MEO business class, crafting a business plan, and officially launching Maui Bone Broth in 2023. Instrumental in the growth of Maui Bone Broth from the beginning, Sunny, our indispensable Operations Manager, oversees everything from finances to production. Helping in every aspect of supporting Aya and the growth of a small business.

Maui Bone Broth’s first official offering was beef bone broth and soon formed a partnership with Maui Nui Venison in 2023. In 2024 we introduced a new broth from pasture-raised chickens sourced from Simple Roots Maui.

What began as a humble stall at the Wednesday Farmers Market at Po’okela Church has now blossomed into a thriving retail operation. Today, Maui Bone Broth serves 27 stores state wide and has expanded to shipping to Oahu, Kauai, Big Island and now all 50 states.

Our mission is rooted in closing the food gap and championing sustainable food sources. By utilizing local ingredients from Maui, we honor the sacred cycle of life and provide nutrient-dense meals that simplify dinner preparations for families, ensuring everyone can access wholesome, healing foods.
